February 27th to March 8th of 2009 was when Daytona Bike Week, an annual event held in Daytona, Florida, was held for bikers from all over the country. This longstanding motorcycle tradition was founded in 1937 as part of the inaugural running of the Daytona 200. The bikers attending the Daytona Bike Week event come from all over the country to put their motorcycles on display, totaling close to 500,000 bikers in one place. Harley Davidson is one of the most popular brands of motorcycles on display at the annual eventThe annual event boasts the motorcycles, gear, and Motorcycle helmets of the Harley Davidson company, one of the most popular and successful motorcycle manufacturing companies in the world.

Concerts, motorcycle racing, parties and street festivals are just some of the events that take place throughout the 10 day celebration in Daytona, Florida. The week ends with the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, which is the most popular motorcycle rally in the United States. The years of 1942-1947 saw an absence of the Daytona Bike Week rally because of World War II.

The amount of attendees to the Daytona Bike Week grew over the years because of the promotion of William France Sr., the co founder of NASCAR. Because Daytona Bike Week is one large motorcycle showcase, some of the attendees of the event don’t even have a motorcycle but are present for the sheer joy of the event.

Bike helmets are not required by the event but some bikers will wear them to protect themselves or to add another element to their outfit when riding the bike.

The bikers also enjoy showing off their motorcycle gear to the friends that they see only once per year. Because of events across the country some attendees of Daytona Bike Week can see their friends more than once.

Daytona Bike Week is the most popular of all the motorcycle events held across the country, drawing the most people each year. Almost all of the other motorcycle events across the country draw anywhere from 250,000 to 300,000 people, which is much less than Daytona Bike Week. Motocross gear is also on display and can be purchased by motocross enthusiasts at the Daytona Bike Week. Over the years fights and brawls have broken out at the event, leading to the death of some participants. In 2006 20 people died, in 2007 eight people died, and back in 2000 15 people died.
